Loom

LOOM is a choreography for four female performers.
And/ or a video installation.

LOOM questions the appearing/disappearing of the body and introduces a gradual revealing of the body; it’s a move from a barely visible shadow that is occupying the whole performance stage thanks to motion.

Duration of the performance: 30 minutes

And/ or a presentation in loops of the video installation.

“LOOM” shows three large ‘boxes’ made of hundreds of meters of elastic stretched out over metallic structures, within which the dancers are imprisoned. A faint light emanates from each of them.

Slowly the spectator can see shadows apperaring. First the shadows are fragmented, almost abstract; it is female bodies leaning naked behind the screens that become increasingly visible as the light surrounding them is increasing.

The moves of performers become stronger and stronger and change – as optical illusions – from simple leaning to an obsessive and hypnotic motion, bodies bounce more and more violently behind the elastic wall until arms and legs burst out literally through the screens.

The great diversity of the moves of the performers in the boxes – from the softest touch to the most violent rebounds against the rubber ‘wall’ gives rise to extremely rich sound material.

LOOM is also available as a video installation.
In this case, the image of the bodies’ imprints is projected on three structures wrapped in rubber bands. The lines created by the rubber bands inevitably refer -‘physically’- to the lines drawn by the rays of light of the projectors.
